Who We Are:
We are on a mission to break the cycle of poverty by providing education opportunities to children in need.

Our Mission
We are on a mission to give students an opportunity to break out of the cycle of poverty through education.
Young people want the chance to get out of the farms and fields of Baja California. They want to learn. We help make it possible. Instead of a childhood of dawn-to-dark labor, children get scholarships to finish grade school, attend high school, and even earn a university degree.
A few dollars are all that stand between a childhood spent as a field worker and a future in a trade or profession of their choice. If a family can't afford fees, pay for expensive school uniforms, or even buy pencils and paper, then the children in that family can't go to school. It's just that simple.

Yesterday, UABC College invited us to present the results of the photography workshops. Last year, we hosted a workshop for teenagers, and this year, we organized another one for mothers. Both groups were invited to present their pictures and stories at UABC College.
Dr. Rita Trillo, the workshop coordinator, gave a presentation about the experience of working with our students and mothers. Afterwards, some of the participants also shared their experiences.
In the coming days, the pictures presented yesterday will be on display for the college community to appreciate. We thank UABC College for inviting us to their campus and letting our students and mothers enjoy a wonderful afternoon. Some of them felt motivated to go back as college students.

Día de los Muertos in Colonia Oaxaca
What a day! Cempasúchil everywhere — worn as tiaras, hanging on walls, forming magnificent arches, and scattered on the ground, guiding the way for our beloved ones who have passed away. The community, made up mostly of people from southern Mexico, came together to honor and remember their loved ones.
We had the honor of being invited into six homes, where families welcomed us to see their ofrendas and shared stories of their children, parents, the abuela, the tío who loved mole, and the primo who enjoyed his cerveza. Each story was told with love and deep respect.
The community also shared their delicious food — caldo de res, with recipes passed down through generations; mole oaxaqueño, so flavorful and perfectly spicy; atole, frijolitos, and of course, handmade tortillas — from the comal to the paladar. It was an exquisite culinary experience. All the guests praised the ofrendas, the food, and the heartfelt stories.
Our camino began at El Castillo Community Center, where Teacher Alba, along with her team of volunteers and friends, welcomed us as the first casa on our route. From there, we walked through the streets of Colonia Oaxaca, singing songs, tossing cempasúchil petals into the air, and heading to the next home. The six host families were outstanding, kind, and generous — a true embodiment of the Mexican saying, “Mi casa, su casa” — my house is your house.
Thank you to everyone who made this wonderful celebration possible. We hope you had as special a day as we did. Thank you, Colonia Oaxaca.

In the Waiting List you can find students who were previously sponsored or have been waiting for a sponsor. The longer they stay in the Waiting List, the bigger the impact in our General Fund, since we still cover their school expenses.
By becoming a sponsor, you are helping these students to achieve goals that otherwise might be impossible.

Yesterday, we had a workshop to craft flowers with paper. At El Castillo Community Center, mothers of our scholars gathered to enjoy learning a new skill. Teacher Paty, who has previously partnered with us, was our mentor. She showed us to cut paper pieces, glue them and then create a beautiful flower.
The workshop was an opportunity to learn and to have an update on the mothers' lives.

End of the English course!!!
Our students did a presentation to show what they learned during the course. Kids on the Level 2 talked about their pets, while teenagers and adults presented an artist of their choice.
It was great to listen to our students to talk in a second language.

What a beautiful month 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
Goodbye, September. 👋
Goodbye, September. 👋

Juanita was a guest speaker at college. She was invited to talk about being a Indigenous woman in our society. We are so proud of Juanita. She has evolved in many ways. She is a fighter, and a leader. Juanita reminds us of Bartolina Sisa.
Bartolina Sisa was betrayed. She was handed over to the authorities in the city of La Paz, Bolivia, and imprisoned. In 1781, she was one of the leaders of the Aymara rebellion. Bartolina was an Indigenous woman who led her people in the fight for independence from the Spanish Crown. She was a warrior. She was angry about how the conquerors were treating her people.
After one year in prison, she was sentenced to death and publicly humiliated in front of the entire city—to discourage others from following her example or embracing her ideals.
Many years later, we observe the International Day of Indigenous Women because of Bartolina. Today, many women are not only following Bartolina’s lead and ideals, but also honoring her life and legacy—because more than 200 years later, Indigenous women are still being marginalized in our society. We betray them every time we show no interest in their rights. They are still fighting for freedom—whether that means choosing to start a family, getting married, or attending school. They are still fighting for their land, which outsiders take from them, only to treat them as cheap labor—if they’re lucky. They are still fighting for the right to choose their leaders, or even to have a say in who governs them.
It’s no different here in Maneadero. The mothers of our students face these, and many more challenges—simply because they are women, and because they are Indigenous. They are our Bartolinas, fighting against the odds, against the system, and against the people who try to silence them. They live in a state of vulnerability every single day.
Yet still, they rise—just like Bartolina.
Today, we want to honor our Indigenous mothers and friends. There is no way to put into words how deeply their resilience inspires us. How can we surrender, when they haven’t?
I am sure they will continue to fight until the very end.
And their legacy will live on—just like Bartolina’s. Just like Juanita.

We were proud to support our scholar, Mary, during her cap ceremony. Just a few years ago, this moment seemed impossible—but Mary proved otherwise. And not just this time—she’s done it again and again.
She has overcome cancer, poverty, and a lack of opportunities. No matter what stands in her way, she finds a way through. Again and again, she shows us what true resilience looks like.
We are incredibly proud of Mary. 👏 She is a courageous woman with a brave heart. ❤️

Last year, we started building this classroom. Our friends from @theimpactmvmt and @protechstaffing have been part of the project from the beginning. They raised the funds, built the classroom and even donated school supplies.
Last Friday, we officially inaugurated the classroom. It was a party that gathered students, friends and the community in general. They all were grateful for witnessing the good we are doing in the school.
Thank you to @thestaffingpro . Your speech gave us hope. Your work inspire us.

María works in the mornings, selling vegetables. In the afternoons, she works at a taco place. On Mondays, she comes to our community center to learn to read and write. Victoria is a mother of six children. Years ago, she was told that women should stay at home, cooking and cleaning, instead of attending school. She is now on the verge of earning her elementary diploma at the age of 30. Her daughter started elementary school last year.
Sonia is the teacher. She came to Maneadero long ago. She completed middle school and is now teaching in the community, primarily as a volunteer rather than an employee. She is glad to teach other women, even if Spanish is not her first language, and even if her students are learning Spanish as their second language. It is never too late to begin again.
Today, we celebrate International Literacy Day. What a perfect moment to show our appreciation for the students in the Adult Education Program. Every month, around forty students take their exams to move one step closer to earning their elementary education diploma. We teach them and provide them with the school supplies. We offer tutoring and provide computers so they can take their exams. We are teachers and companions.
We are proud of our students. We admire their efforts to pursue their dreams, even if the timing is not perfect. We celebrate their achievements and rejoice when they start writing their names or adding numbers. Every step is a triumph.
Congratulations, students!
We are here to support you every step of the way.

A woman is the being who cares for and protects her culture by passing it on to her children.
By preserving traditions, customs, and languages, she turns her children into heirs of a legacy. They are the guardians and transmitters of a knowledge that they, too, inherited. Their mothers did the same for them. Their grandmothers did the same for their mothers. It is no coincidence that Mexico is often described as a matriarchal country—a nation that survives because of its women, because of its mothers.
In a country with a broad and diverse Indigenous heritage, the role of Indigenous women is fundamental. They keep alive the roots of our ancestors, the voices of the past that continue to echo their wisdom through time. Our cultural wealth is a manifestation of feminine creativity. Women not only give life to other human beings, they also breathe life into a nation, a people, a civilization.
Today, we thank Indigenous women for being creators and preservers. For giving life and safeguarding it. For feeding their children and, through that, feeding an entire country that is nourished by Indigenous motherhood. Thank you for being mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, and friends. Thank you for being an unrelenting force. Thank you for filling our lives with your love.

Last night we had a BajaEd talk with @theacademyatdistrict . They are on a mission trip building a house.
We introduced Rosalía and Alejandro, our scholars, to the group. The scholars shared their story and how they have overcome difficult circumstances in their lives. They talked about being a student on our waiting list, hoping to be sponsored by someone.
Before the talk finished, both scholars received a outstanding gifth: both will be sponsored from now on! 🎁🎊🎉
Thank you to Academy at Disctrict Church for inviting us over to have a talk. More importantly, thank you for sponsoring our scholars. We appreciate it. 🙏🙏🙏

To sponsor a child is to think about the future, to sponsor their parents is to act in the present. 👌
We hope our scholars can make it to college someday, but in order to increase their odds of obtaining a degree it is important to help their parents to study and get a better job. Most of our scholars' parents earn minimum wage. Education would help them to applied for jobs with better salaries, increasing their life quality.
Thank you for your donations. Together, we are helping generations to break the cycle of poverty through education.
